Week 1 Power Rankings
Week 1 came in with a bang! Many great out of division matchups lined the schedule this week, and while there were a few surprises, the powerhouses proved themselves right out of the gate. Here is a rundown of the week 1 Power Rankings.
1. Sacramento Assassins (2-0) - Do they have a weakness? One of the top QB's in J. Sniper. One of the top all-purpose RB's with S. Cannon, and a stifling defense. Expect the Assassins to be near the top of the power rankings all season long. Get used to it people.
2. Pacoima Rhinos (2-0) - A great combination of Defense and Rushing attack, they surprised many and made quick work of the Warriors and Spartans... now on to the Pirates. I feel bad for the Pirates Defense. They are about to meet a Rushing juggernaut, with a defense good enough to get them far into the playoffs. Watch out!
3. East Bay Warhawks (2-0) - Jafar Armstrong might be the best athlete in the CMFA. A rare combination of speed and size, he fits the bill of all-around back. He and WR Cam Robinson gave the Darkhorse secondary fits all game long. Add defensive pressure from Lamarcus David and Ellis Mack, and you have a recipe for disaster. Watch out Warriors, the Warhawks are coming for you next week.
4. Los Angeles Darkhorse (1-1) - The Darkhorse was supposed to be the team to beat this year, with an incredible defense and a relentless rushing game. The East Bay Warhawks put a stop to that week 1. With a stifling defense, and an incredible backfield , the Warhawks bullied the Darkhorse all game long. Expect a classic between Pacoima and LA next week.
5. Pittsburg Pirates (1-1) - The record is what we expected, but the victory and defeat were supposed to come at the hands of the opposite teams. The Pirates showed tenacity and the ability to methodically move the ball down the field against the Minutemen. They could easily be 2-0 had things slid their way against the Darkhorse. Expect big things from them in week 2.
6. Richmond Warriors (0-2) - This team could be the dark horse come playoff time. From game 1 against the Rhinos to game 2 against the Assassins, they looked like a different team. With an improved passing game, this team will go far. Marcus Rotes looks like the real deal in the backfield.
7. - 8. Elk Grove Minutemen and San Francisco Crimson Warriors (0-2) - This wasn't supposed to happen. Both teams are talented and are expected to go far into the playoffs. Hopefully we're looking at first week jitters and getting used to playing with the talent they have on the field. Both Cam Johnson and Bob Stewart will find their feet in week 2. I don't expect to see either of these teams in this position for long.
